This photo depicts a little girl and her father at the annual Viking gathering in Denmark. Though not an intentionally dramatic photo, the little girl's face has this wistful, thoughtful look. It seems everything is moving around her but she is still. The innocence of it all is refreshing.
Source: CNN Poster: Megan This image portrays the confusion behind Thomas Piketty's data in his economics book "Capital in the Twenty-First Century". Piketty's research about the nation's wealth becoming concentrated in the hands of an elite minority was later discredited, and led to contrasting opinions reguarding global economics. This picture stood out to me because it had a blunt and powerful message about economics throughout the world: No one really understands the processes of finance.
Source: The Wall Street Journal/ David Gothard Poster: Sanobar This is a photo of a family who's off on a family summer road trip( on foot) for six weeks. I love how the light perfectly captures the look on the young girls face. source: new york times/ jessica lehrman
poster: raven This photo shows how the new law in New York has cut back preschool teachers. I like the picture because it catches your attention. You know that it has something to do with kids, but you're not exacly sure what so you want to read more. source: New york times/ karsten Moran
poster: Raven This image of the Gulf Coast was taken by the International Space Station crew at 225 miles above Earth. What I really like about this photo is that you get an ariel view of Texas at night. It gives emphasis on all the city lights throughout the suthern coast.
Source: Discovery News / Ian O'Neill Poster: Miles This image depicts a stethoscope and a noose in one. It was very powerful to me because it was so blunt. The image made me want to click on the story to read more. Source- The New York Times / Pranay Sinha Poster- Hannah This is an illustration of a dinosaur creature, made to look like a child drew it. This stood out because newspapers do not often put illustrations of cartoon dinosaurs spitting fire on their website. The cartoon relates to children, which was the purpose of the story: to provide children with creative things to do in the summer. This illustration made me curious as to what the story could be about. The Grid / Rebecca Brown & Diane Peters Poster: Olivia This is a photograph depicting (former) Senator Obama emerging from a holding area backstage in Cincinnati, Ohio before a rally. What really catches my interest is the light that emphasizes his outline as he exits the room; it is a great use of using the environment and shadows to one's advantage when taking photos.
